The SEN Support Hub is a digital tool for education settings to record special educational needs (SEN) support for a child or young person, reducing informal and paper administration and delivering a more consistent approach across settings within a local area.

The Government's aim is for the needs of most children and young people to be accommodated through SEN support only.

Ensuring a robust SEN support stage in the first instance will create a more sustainable process for local authorities, reducing the number of children and young people being inappropriately escalated through to the statutory EHC pathway. It will also provide a strong evidence base to enable local authorities to make quicker decisions around the need to assess as part of the statutory pathway. 

The Hub:

  • Places the child or young person and their family at the heart of the process
  • Offers an opportunity for family engagement to improve transparency, understanding and communication
  • Follows the well-established process for SEN Support – Assess, Plan, Do, Review
  • Promotes a consistent approach across settings in a local area
  • Facilitates easy and secure collaboration between education settings, families and professionals e.g. Education Psychologists
  • Supports a robust evidence base for an EHC assessment, enabling quicker decision making in the statutory process
  • Provides local authorities with visibility of SEN support activity and progress towards outcomes
  • Serves as an effective predictor model for local authorities of how many children / young people are likely to come into the statutory EHC pathway
  • Drives cost savings

For local authorities and education settings, the SEN Support Hub offers a flexible and consistent way to demonstrate why a child or young person needs an EHC needs assessment. The solution supports the practised four-part cycle to continually assess and understand the pupil’s needs and monitor progress towards achieving outcomes (Assess, Plan, Do, Review).
